S. 2229 – Medicare for All Act

Purpose: To provide quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

 

Status: This bill introduced by Senator Edward Kennedy is a companion bill to H.R. 4683. It was referred to the Committee on Finance on January 31, 2006.

 

NRLN Position: The NRLN has reservations about this bill and has asked questions of the bill’s sponsors.  We expect to develop a position or positions on this bill as we learn more.

H.R. 4683 – Medicare for All Act


Purpose: To provide quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

 

Status:  This bill introduced by Congressman Dingle is a companion bill to S. 2229. It was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means, Committee on Energy and Commerce and Committee on Government Reform on February 1, 2006.

H.R. 1 – Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003

 

Purpose: To provide for a voluntary program for prescription drug coverage under the Medicare program.  Status: Enacted in January 2004 and became effective January 1, 2006.  NRLN Position: The NRLN supports the following H.R. 1 amendments:
  • (1) safe and price-competitive importation of prescription drugs,
  • (2) competitive bidding, and
  • (3) retention of company drug plans in effect as of the date of this Act, in order to qualify for any subsidies under the Act.
  •  The NRLN supports S.334 as the solution for (1). If no bill is available for amendments (2) and (3), the NRLN will try to create and find sponsors for them.
